He could be the making of my brother– or make him worse than ever.
"Are you two smoking?"
Hey, what happened to my chair?
Can we talk about this? “It’s good to be missed” “Well you were gone”. If that isn’t two people in pain about not being each others primary person anymore then I don’t know. Sherlock demonstrates his loss by redecorating. By removing the physical evidence of the space that John used to occupy, but that space is now so incredibly empty. And he doesn’t reply with his usual “oh, sentiment?”. Instead he forces John to face what he did. He left. “You were gone.”
Once Mary shoots Sherlock and Sherlock forces her to reveal her secret to John the chair returns. I think Sherlock hopes that John will, once again, occupy that space. And I don’t know what John will have to go through to find his way back to Baker Street, but I do know that in this scene he still felt that it was his space, his chair, his person. These are two people hurting for the loss of the other and they are unable to express it in a way that could help them find their way back together. For now.
yes. i also think Sherlock didn’t want to see Janine in John’s chair physically occupying John’s special space. even if it was just a physical space he didn’t want to see John being replaced like that. maybe if he didn’t see her in John’s chair he was able to keep her from getting close to him and affecting him personally.
Sherlock didn’t stop Mycroft or Mrs. Hudson from sitting in the chair. just the person who he was pretending to be in a romantic relationship with. her name is the female version of John so many ways she was a replacement for John but Sherlock refused her the chair.
only the real John got the chair.
